So this was the first time delivering this band new workshop of mine, the second workshop I'd done at the Ventnor Exchange, and my third workshop ever - No pressure then! So, what to do for my second workshop? My first one (Portrait 101) mainly covered the main technical tools a new photographer needs to learn to practice and understand Photography. Such as Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO. As this was what I had done previously and this new workshop was aimed at a younger group of people (11-15 year olds) I decided to take a different approach. It's often I think, an overlooked fact that composition is just as important as learning the manual settings of a camera. Who want's a perfectly exposed shot if it is not visually appealing and interesting? It matters not if you are using an iPhone or a £3000 camera, you can use tried and tested composition techniques, (such as the rule of thirds) to take a more refined photo, catch the viewers eye and hopefully tell some kind of story in the way only photography can. After all "A picture is worth a thousand words" (an overused and cheesy saying I grant you, but it is for a reason as it is so true.) A much smaller group of young people came along to this workshop than had done to my previous two, however they where all great little sponges ready to soak up knowledge, how could we fail?! We went through ten different composition techniques and then put these into practice, using the brilliant space and resources the Exchange has to offer. We all took part in a friendly competition and I awarded a prize (in the form of chocolate) to my favourite set of images that successfully demonstrated these composition methods. It was a lovely thing to witness; lots of enthusiasm, great ideas, activity, laughter and photographic experimentation filled the building, which was saying something as there where so few of us. So thank you everyone for making my Sunday afternoon a happy and successful one! Love and stuff xo.

Very exciting stuff! I'm sure things will be added to and changed over the next few weeks, but this website is now more what I've wanted it to be in the last few months and I'm a very happy bunny!
I haven't written a blog post for a while! (Since 2014 - yikes!) Since then there has been workshops, exhibitions, Little People Week, a lot of portraits and lots about Weddings! (For photographing other peoples, but also for my own - 16 days to go!!!) Here's a link to my old blog by the way. I am really going to try and use my blog much more regularly though (If I had a penny for every time I'd said that....), now that it's all linked in with my website and it's all been given a facelift. It's amazing how something like that can gave you such a boost! In the weeks to come I'm planning another Little People week on my Facebook page, I am running a free workshop for 11-15 year olds at the Ventnor Exchange next Sunday as part of their Sunday School. I'm photographing a local B&B in a couple of weeks and along with other commissions and projects I have planned I'm happily chugging along! Sorry it's short, but I'm going to say Au revoir for now! Love and stuff xo. |
