I've been a busy little bee recently, but like the bee's I suddenly took a downturn. Last Saturday after I'd spent all morning cleaning out the room where my studio is going to be (with the help of my lovely Ma and Pa), I felt ruddy bloody awful afterwards and it didn't go away for a whole week. The flu has been making it's rounds where I live and I annoyingly caught it, I don't usually catch things like that but this time these was no escape. I had the full works and felt thoroughly warn out and rubbish. I had been feeling a bit naff before too. I've been feeling at a real loss creatively. Later on in the week when my brain seemed to have returned to the planet earth, I had lots of time to reflect and think about new ideas and now I actually feel back on track. I feel even more on track after meeting up with my friend and model Harriet. It's so refreshing when not only your ideas don't sound like complete drivel to others, but they actually want to get on board! I am even more excited to get the studio up and running now! Sorry this entry is a bit on the small and boring side, but I felt the need to shout from rooftops (of the internet) "I HAVE INSPIRATION!" As a peace offering , I've copied over the blog article I wrote for the Undecided Art Collective below and stuck some photos in for good measure. "July inevitably turned into August, and here in Ventnor (and for the Undecided Art Collective for that matter) this means only one thing. A Whole lot of Ventnor Fringe goodness!
With the success with our themed show “Undecided on Love”, we decided to continue with our joint artistic adventures and tackle the mystery of dreams. “Undecided on Dreams” comprised of 25 of the Collective’s finest, exploring their own and others dreams – The good, the bad and the completely nonsensical! Between Tuesday the 11th and Sunday the 16th of August we transformed Cafe 34 (Ventnor) into an ‘Aladdin’s cave’ of unique and affordable artwork. Including contemporary textiles from Julie Barnes of Ivy’s Table, the colourful acrylics of Stephen Butterfield, Dream-based oil landscapes from Mark Dickson, a Minecraft interpretation of Ventnor by Chris Gutteridge, New photographic works from Holly Cade, The Distracted Dreams series by Luke Ellison, The digital manipulations of Chris Jones (aka Chemical GDNS), God-knows-what from Six Webbed Fingers, Diaramas from Fran Heath, stunning pencil and tea drawings by Carlos M Burgos, the reciprocal drawings of Woz Hampshire, a whole album of sound-based art by Harry Wareham, a 32 minute documentary poem by John Armstrong of Chorderize, new work from Boney, and the multimedia stylings of Tania Dixcey plus many more! The ‘Dreamline’ has almost taken on a life of it’s own since we set it up in preparation for the show and people are still ringing up and donating their dreams! You can donate your dreams to our artists via the UAC Dreamline, powered by the wonderful team at On the Wight. Just call 01983 475123 leave your dream as a message after the beep and you might see your dream re-interpreted as a piece of art by one of our members even after the show has now ended! Another new addition to the show came in the form of a Undecided Art Collective Kid’s Art Competition. We had many fantastic and imaginative pieces of work entered and we had the very hard job of having to chose our winners! Luckily we had the help of Mhairi Macaulay (the Producer of the Ventnor Fringe Festival) to help us choose. The winners of each category received a certificate, a handmade UAC rosette and an exclusive UAC goody bag! Our under 8 years old Winner was Francesca (Aged 6) who made a beautiful diorama inspired by our very own Fran Heath and based on a dream she had all taking place on a beach! The Under 16 Winner was Harvey (Aged 11) who after being inspired by Chris Gutteridge’s work, decided to put the Minecraft version of Ventnor through a tsunami, after he’d dreamed of the same scenario. He then took a photo of the waves engulfing the seafront and printed the pictures for a photo frame and a mug! We created the category of Highly Commended to encompass the wonderful Christopher (Age 9) who blew us away with his wonderful pencil drawing, which he finished working on Saturday morning when he visited us at the show! Once again, a huge congratulations to you three and a massive thank you to all who entered! With our artist senses tingling and three post-it notes full of new UAC show ideas, we finish this blog entry by advising you to watch this space!" Love and stuff xo.

With all my Wedding Photography packages comes the option to have a free engagement shoot included. Usually people are either engaged for too long to feel the need for a engagement shoot or it just isn't their cup of tea, but for Gemma and Phil an engagement shoot was like a beautiful cup of English Breakfast! Phil proposed to Gemma at a beach hut in Gurnard so we thought it would be a great idea to do the shoot there. Partly because the weather was only nice at the end of the day on Thursday and partly because we thought it would really work for the photos, we went down there in the evening and had a fun half hour or so chatting, posing and admiring the beauty that Gurnard has to offer! Thank you so much for a fun evening you two, only a month to go until the big day! eeeek!
Love and stuff xo I don't think I've ever been as busy with work as I am right now. I am absolutely loving it. Ever since I became Mrs. Jenkins and went away on Honeymoon it's been nearly non stop, maybe my marital status is a good luck charm? I've been trying to update on Facebook about my new jobs and ventures as much as possible, but I woke up this Monday morning, went downstairs to let the dog out and make my morning coffee, turned on my laptop after having a days space from it and realised it has been nearly two months since I last wrote in my last bloggy blog entry. Scandalous!
I've been doing lots of work with a high end estate agent recently, which has been a great new experience for me. Photographing kitchens and bedrooms is very different to miniatures and human beings. I always like a challenge though, and if you don't question your practice and strive to improve your craft I think is almost sentencing it to death. I'm also getting my first studio space! Oh em gee! It'll be in Newport town centre which is a great location and will be above a shop run by two people who were initially clients and are fast becoming my friends. I want to try and get it up and going in the next few weeks, but obviously there is a lot of work to do that needs to be done in between lots of paid work; Completion date? Annoyingly uncertain. I took my 5D mkIII to my best friends graduation in Medway (who is now a fully qualified pharmacist, and is soon to be starting her PhD to become Dr. Lilley! Funny how time flies, it seems not so long ago that we were both eleven years old and going to youth club together and having sleepovers every weekend...) and I was also paid to do another dear friends Wedding photos in Barnet (London) all in the same week. A fair bit of traveling and a fair bit of feeling proud for my loved ones. All in all a bloody lovely and tiring week! This week I'll be having lots meetings, doing a photo shoot with puppies, taking portraits for Hose Rhode Dixon, along with a engagement shoot for a lovely couple that have hired me to be their Wedding Photographer for next month, and helping to transform a cafe into an art gallery as part of the Ventnor Fringe Festival. (I hope to squeeze in some Little People work too if I can) Speaking of Ventnor Fringe, the photos in this blog entry are behind the scenes photos I took a few weeks ago. Rachael, Stagg and I had a truly joyful day riding around the Isle of Wight, playing guitar, eating carbonara and left over wedding cake and taking photos as part of my work for the Undecided Art Collective's upcoming exhibition "Undecided on Dreams". I'm so horrendously excited for this show, I love when our collective gets together and makes new art. Also a cool new addition to this show is the Dreamline, which has helped inspire me and other members of the collective to create their pieces for the show. If you are in Ventnor any time between the 11th and 16th August, feel free to come and say hi! We'll be in Cafe 34, 10am - 4pm every day! Toodle pip! Love and stuff xo. |
